ROUND 6: SNETTERTON RACE 2
Revie Lake left Snetterton with one of those weekends that can be difficult for a racing driver to forget.
Revie Lake endures another frustrating Snetterton race after front-left puncture
Revie Lake's Snetterton weekend ended without a reward despite the young driver's pace, as an early puncture ruined another chance of a strong GT4 finish.
Not because of the result.
Because of what might have been.
After qualifying third in GT4 for Race 1 and retiring on the opening lap, Lake and Blake Angliss returned for the second sprint race looking to salvage points.
Instead, another piece of bad luck intervened.
Starting over again
With the second race requiring a separate qualifying session, the #84 Paddock Motorsport McLaren began the afternoon from further down the GT4 field.
That meant Lake and Angliss had a straightforward objective: survive the opening laps, make progress and give themselves a chance of moving towards the points-paying positions.
The car had already demonstrated that it had the pace.
Now it needed reliability.
The puncture
Unfortunately, the McLaren suffered a front-left puncture early in the race.
The damage forced an additional pit stop and effectively ended any realistic chance of fighting at the front.
DailySportscar reported that Lake and Angliss ultimately rounded out the GT4 field, with the puncture costing them the opportunity to fight for a strong result.
Paddock Motorsport's own post-event report described the weekend as a case of "what could have been", noting that the team had produced strong performance but both GT4 races were undone by incidents or mechanical bad luck.
A weekend of missed opportunities
Lake had demonstrated the pace to qualify third.
The car had been competitive.
But in both races, circumstances prevented him from showing what the McLaren could actually do over a full hour.
Race 1 ended on the opening lap.
Race 2 was compromised by the puncture.
The only consolation was that the pairing still came away with a fourth-place finish in the GT4 Silver classification.
The encouraging part
For all the frustration, Snetterton may ultimately prove to be one of the most important weekends of Lake's season.
The results do not show it.
But the pace does.
Lake qualified third.
He was involved in the fight near the front of the GT4 field.
And the Paddock Motorsport team believed the performance was strong enough to have delivered podiums without the setbacks.
That is a significant development for a driver who is still only 16.
From results to potential
Lake's 2026 season has therefore developed into an intriguing pattern.
Silverstone: front-running pace, followed by retirement.
Oulton: two difficult but valuable sprint races.
Spa: GT4-leading practice pace and a front-row qualifying performance, followed by a disappointing race.
Snetterton: third on the grid, followed by an opening-lap retirement and then a puncture.
The results column does not yet make for spectacular reading.
But the underlying performances are becoming increasingly interesting.
At Snetterton, Lake showed that he belongs near the front of the GT4 field.
Now comes the next step: staying there.
